  Michael Wolf

Michael Wolf was born in Munich, Germany, in 1954. He studied at UC Berkeley
and at the
University of Essen in Germany with professor Otto Steinert. He has
been living and working
as a photographer and author in China since 1994. In
addition to working for a wide spectrum
of international magazines and
publications, 3 books by him on China have been published to
date: "Sitting in
China" (published by Steidl,  2002) and "China im Wandel" (published by

Frederking und Thaler, 2001,) and "Hong Kong front door/back door" published by
Thames and
Hudson in 2005 and Steidl in January 2006. Wolf has been
intensively concerned with the
topic of vernacular culture for many years. His
most recent work deals with the issue of the
cultural identity of the city of Hong
Kong. The exhibition "Architecture of Density," shown
in New York in Febuary
2004 and in San Francisco in January/Febuary 2005,  is a part of
Michael Wolfs
recent Hongkong project. In addition to his editorial work,  Wolf exhibits his
projects internationally. "Sitting in China" was shown in the Kestner Museum in
Hannover,
Germany in 2003.  His installation "The Real Toy Story"was shown in
the Museum for
Contemporary Photography in Chicago from January 12-March
3, 2006.
