Weng Nai Qiang is a senior photographer; he was professionally trained at the China Central Academy of Fine Arts. He has produced many works as representations of current events. From his earliest works, Weng Nai Qiang has artistically pursued the creation of a truthful historical record, to faithfully document people's lives. In his twenty-six year career as a professional photographer, he witnessed the Cultural Revolution and the policy of Reform and Opening Up. With a sense of calling, he photographed many important historical events, such as Chairman Mao's review of the Red Guards in Tian An Men Square, the April Fifth Incident, the celebration of the fall of the Gang of Four, and the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference. He has contributed many unique and precious visual documents. In the years of Cultural Revolution, he did not fake, pose or direct a single photograph; he instead insisted on capturing each photograph truthfully, so that his workers were accurately appreciated by viewers. Weng Nai Qiang's works have been selected for use in many books. His photograph "Zai Kao Chang Shang" won the National Photography Silver Medal Award from 1977 to 1980. His photograph "Ma Ta Fei Yan" was included in the book, Chinese Photography Works (1949-1979). In 1980, he became a member of the Chinese Artists' Association and the Chinese Photographers' Association. In 1986 he helped found the Returned Overseas Chinese Photographers' Association and further served as vice-president of the association. In 1995, he became a member of the Qualification Review Committee of the Society of Worldwide Ethnic Chinese Photographers Limited; he was also a founding member of this organization. In 1989, he was invited by the PAT. Weng Nai Qiang led a visiting delegation of the Returned Overseas Chinese Photographers Association in Thailand, where the organization held several traveling exhibitions. Weng Nai Qiang was awarded for his contributions as a Chinese artist by the Returned Overseas Chinese Photographers Association and The Bridge Slide Club International Ltd. |
