1942 Born on October 22 in Zhaotong County, Yunnan Province, China. 1961 Graduated from Yunnan University's Middle School in Kunming. Worked as primary school teacher, as a journalist at the local Propaganda Centre, and at the Zhaotong County Cultural Center. 1969 Started his self-taught photographic career. 1981 Admitted to the All China Photographers' Association. 1989 Held "Touring Yunnan" photo exhibition in Taipei and Kaohsiung, Taiwan. 1993 Published first album "Mountain Folks in Yunnan". 1994 Ten photos selected in the "Exhibition of Contemporary Photos of Mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan" held at the Hong Kong Art Center. 1996 "Mountain Folks in Yunnan" exhibited at the 7th Fotofest in Houston, Texas, USA Exhibited "Yunnan, China" at the 9th Mois de la Photo, Paris 1997 Photo series "Mountain Folks in Yunnan" won the "Mother Jones International Fund for Documentary Photography" prize; Wu Jialin travelled to New York in June to claim the prize. Exhibited "Mountain Folks in Yunnan" at the International Center of Photography, New York. Exhibited "Mountain Folks in Yunnan" at the Internationale Fototage Herten, Germany 1998 At the invitation of Mark Haworth Booth, Director of the Victoria Fine Arts Museum, England, Wu Jialin compiled comments for the museum collection of China-theme photos from the Cartier Bresson's photo exhibition. 1999 Participated in "Art Going to the People - Metro Photo Exhibition" held at the Stockholm National Museum, Sweden. Participated in "China - the 50th Anniversary of the Peoples' Republic" Photos and Publications Exhibition held in New York, which was sponsored by the Aperture Foundation; the exhibition later went on international tours. 2000 Won award for the photo exhibition "Moments of Intimacy - Families, Friendship and Love", New Zealand and the "Third Wang Zhong Culture Award", Yunnan Shot "Fashion of the Times" photos for the New York Times Magazine Odyssey Issue. 2001 Held "The World in Black and White" photo exhibition respectively at the 1st Pingyao International Photo Festival in Shanxi and the T'Cafe/Gallery in Kunming, China 2002 Nine photographs selected in the Blink Album "100 New Photographic Elites of the World" by the Phaidon Publishing House (UK), in which only two Chinese photographers were listed. Held "Man and Nature 2002" photo exhibition at the Nordica, Kunming 2003 Representative photos "Chitchatting 1999 in Chengdu" selected by Henri Cartier Bresson for "Les Choix d'Henri Cartier-Bresson". Out of candidates from all countries, Bresson personally chose 85 photographers for the 1888 - 1999 period. Only 39 among the selected photographic masters of the world are still alive. Ten photos entered the 13 Photographic Elites exhibition at the "Fotofest 1992 - 2002" held at Samara Art Gallery, Russia. 2004 Held "Wu Jialin Photos" at Moscow Museum of Modern Art, Russia Album "Surprises" published. Exhibition "Animals in Wu Jialin's Humanistic Environment" held at Au Pavillon Musee Fabre, Montpellier, France 2005 Published "Instants of the Mysterious Lands - Wu Jianlin's Album." Exhibited "Animals in Wu Jialin's Humanistic Environment" at the South Taiwan Art University. Invited to Hamburg, Germany to participate in the Bff-Kongress Hamburg 2005 sponsored by Bund Freischaffender Foto-Designer; Wu gave a lecture, presenting a slide-show of 60 pieces of his photographic works. Competed with 175 photographers from all over the world for the 2005 Gold Prize of the Bresson's Photographic Foundation (H.C.B); was chosen as one of five candidates to enter the final competition. Exhibited "Animals in Wu Jialin's Humanistic Environmen" at the First Lianzhou International Photographic Exhibition.
